Who Is PMG?

Since our founding in 1989, PMG has grown from a handful of members to more than 130 Master Gardeners. We all live, work and garden in or near Charlottesville, Virginia---home of the University of Virginia and Jefferson's Monticello, and an area graced by some of the loveliest landscape the Blue Ridge has to offer.

Throughout the year, our members work closely with the local Virginia Cooperative Extension Office on a variety of volunteer programs designed to bring the benefits of horticulture to the backyards and byways of our communities. The thousands of hours that we devote to volunteer work annually allow us to share our passion for gardening with others. An amazing number of our members put in far more than the minimum volunteer hours required each year. For a glimpse of what PMG accomplished in 2007, click here.

As much as we love our community work, we enjoy PMG for other reasons, too. Where else would we have a chance to bond so conveniently with other garden fanatics for whom conversations about compost tea, new tomato varieties and the latest craze in variegated foliage are little short of nirvana?
