Piedmont Master Gardeners: 2007 Accomplishments

At PMG's holiday party in December 2007, outgoing PMG president Janet Borch shared highlights from the organization's activities during her year in office:

** Designed and launched our own website:
piedmontmastergardeners.org.

** Logged more than 6,200 volunteer hours on assorted projects
 around the community.

** Logged 131 hours at Master Gardener College; 1019 hours in MG-sponsored continuing education; and 2492 hours of non-MG-sponsored continuing education.

** Sponsored our most successful Spring Lecture Series and Spring Plant Sale to date. Both events together brought in more than $5,300 in 2007.

** Gave $1000 to support PMG's annual 4-H scholarship.

** Purchased a Dual Fiber Optic Light Source for the PMG Help Desk.

** Sponsored four free public workshops at the main library in Charlottesville.

** Organized a one-day field trip to Buffalo Springs Herb Farm for PMG members.

** Provided financial support for several projects, including our Demonstration Garden (to include purchase of a sign); revitalization of the Senior Center Rose Garden; the Tree Steward class (new, to begin in February 2008); Alison Montgomery to develop a children's activity table at the Crozet Farmer's Market.

** Purchased a labeling machine for PMG projects.

** Provided an honorarium for Dr. Holly Scoggins to speak
at our annual training session.

**  $1000 awarded to a horticultural student at PVCC.

**  Ten of 2007's MG interns met or exceeded the 50 hour requirement to become full fledged MGs. One of them, Jay Gillenwater, had logged 348 hours as of 11/6/07 and is the President-elect for 2008.

**  Created and commissioned our own PMG banner decorated with the official PMG logo.

**  Supported the SPCA at our annual picnic and Salvation Army at our Holiday Party.

**  Enjoyed continued growth in attendance at our membership meetings, hosting a record 45 participants at our November meeting.

We have plenty of activities and ambitions
in store for 2008! Stay tuned!
